Lunar New Year is full of gatherings, traditional foods, and long meals. But for many people, it also means blood sugar spikes, energy crashes, and feeling uncomfortable for a few days aferward from overdoing it.
You don’t need extreme restriction. You need a game plan.
Here are practical ways to stay steady while still enjoying the festivities:
1️⃣Eat a healthy breakfast with a balance of protein, fiber, healthy fats, and complex carbohydrates. Don’t try to starve yourself all day just because there is a big dinner event coming up, you’ll end up way overeating and spike your blood sugar.
2️⃣Workout in the morning and have post meal movement such as going for a walk after each meal to help your body utilize the extra sugar.
3️⃣Choose water, unsweetened tea, or drinks with no added sugar instead of sugary beverages.
4️⃣Fill half your plate with veggies first, then quarter protein and carbs for a colorful, balanced celebration plate.
5️⃣Be selective about festive treats (Sweet mochi ball, sweet rice cake, etc) and control overall carb portions. Just have small portion, and go easy on the carb from the main entrée to save room for dessert if you plan to eat them.
Celebration and health do not have to compete.
