BASI Pilates Teacher Training retreat at Casa Cales in Loule, Portugal

Just finished my BASI Pilates Teacher Training retreat at Casa Cales in Loule, Portugal. It’s been such a wonderful experience. Our group of 14 girls are from all over the world. Learned so much from each one of them. Looking forward to practicing more and teaching soon. Thanks especially to our instructor Ola Mazur, our assistant instructor Nami Skarule, and our retreat host Mareile Paley. On our last day, it happened to be International Pilates Day, and we joined the founder of BASI Pilates Rael Isacowitz for a Pilates session over zoom with people around the world! What a treat!

Starchy Vegetables Comparison

When eating starchy vegetables such as corn, sweet potatoes or potatoes, since they are considered carb, it’s better that you don’t eat more carb such as rice or noodle. When it comes to glycemic index (GI), corn tends to fall in the low GI while sweet potatoes have a medium GI depending on the variety and preparation method. Russet potatoes, however, have a high GI. This means that corn and sweet potatoes are better options for managing blood sugar levels compared to russet potatoes.
To make these starchy vegetables part of a balanced meal, consider pairing them with protein, fiber, and healthy fats. This combination can help slow down the absorption of sugars into the bloodstream, providing a more stable and sustained energy release. So next time you enjoy these delicious veggies, consider the bigger picture of your meal for optimal blood sugar control!

Client Review in Yelp

Meet our incredible client Linda, Amy’s 65-year-old mom! She was happy that she found a dietitian who speaks her language and understand her cultural food. She struggled with frequent digestive discomfort, depression, and lost quite a bit of weight (around 10 lbs), Amy turned to us for help. I was able to help her understand which foods to avoid and suggested nutritious alternatives. Besides nutrition, I was also able to work with her to develop some lean body mass with strength training.

Motivation Monday

Every choice you make towards a healthier lifestyle is a step closer to the vibrant future you envision. Whether it’s preparing a nourishing meal, engaging in a rejuvenating workout, or dedicating time to your mental well-being, these actions compound over time, leading to remarkable results. Commit to choices that nurture your well-being TODAY.

How to choose noodle

When selecting pasta, consider your health goals and dietary needs. Chickpea pasta is low on the glycemic index, making it a good choice for stable blood sugar levels. It’s also high in protein, fiber, iron, and folate. Soba noodles offer manganese, fiber, and antioxidants, though they have a slightly higher glycemic index. Vermicelli noodles are low in fat and sodium but lack fiber and protein compared to other options. For balanced nutrition, combine pasta with a variety of nutrient-rich foods.

Weekend Camping

Had a weekend getaway this past weekend camping in Morro Bay. Was going to cancel the trip after I found out it would rain over the weekend. It did rain on our way there, but stopped as soon as we arrived at the campsite, God’s timing was perfect. We set up our tent under clear skies and even captured some beautiful sunset pictures of the surroundings. In the evening, it rained all night while we were sleeping, and thankfully we didn’t get too wet. The next morning, we knew that it was going to rain in the morning, so we relaxed and joined an online Sunday worship service before packing up and hitting the trail. The whole afternoon when we were out on the trail, weather was perfect and we encountered stunning landscapes and breathtaking views, reminding us of the beauty of God’s creation.

Sweet Potato Harvest

Planted these sweet potatoes like 3 years ago and never harvested them until now!!! I thought I made the Guinness record for a sec, but I checked the largest one is actually 81lbs, so it’s nowhere close, but it should still earn me some bragging rights I guess 😂 Not sure if it is edible though lol 🍠🌿
